Texas Traffic Ticket Statistics: FY 2025 Court Data

Review FY 2025 Texas traffic-ticket court data from municipal and justice courts, including non-parking traffic misdemeanor cases, course dismissals, and deferred dispositions—then open the right city, cost, or violation resource.

Statewide snapshot

FY 2025 traffic case activity reported by Texas courts

These combined totals use the non-parking traffic-misdemeanor columns in the official municipal- and justice-court activity reports. Filed and disposed totals are separate annual measurements, not one group moving through a funnel.

Four terms that prevent misleading comparisons

Case filed

A new court case reported during the fiscal year. It is not necessarily a count of every citation an officer issued.

Traffic citation

Case disposed

A case with a reported outcome during the year. It may have been filed in the same year or an earlier year.

Final disposition

Course dismissal

A reported compliance dismissal after a driver safety course. The individual court’s order and documentation requirements still control.

Course dismissal

Deferred disposition

A court process involving conditions and a deferral period. It is different from taking defensive driving for dismissal.

Deferred disposition
Two court systems

Municipal courts and justice courts reported different shares of the statewide activity

The court named on the citation controls the case. These statewide totals are useful context, but they do not replace that court’s current instructions.

Municipal courts

88.7% reporting

Often handle city-filed fine-only cases and municipal ordinance matters.

Course dismissals

Deferred dismissals

Justice courts

93.7% reporting

Justice-of-the-peace courts operate at the county precinct level and also report traffic misdemeanor activity.

Data boundaries

Ticket cases, ticket prices, and crash statistics are not the same thing

Court cases are not identical to citations issued

OCA publishes case activity submitted by courts. A roadside citation can produce a court case, but the statewide report is not a complete officer-issued citation count.

Case totals do not reveal one universal ticket price

Fine amounts, court costs, local charges, the alleged violation, and the case outcome can change what a driver owes. Use the dedicated cost pages for that question.

Crash data measure safety events, not court filings

TxDOT crash reports answer different questions. They should not be combined with court-case totals as though they describe the same population.

Source and methodology

How we use Texas court data

The page uses official statewide court-activity reports and labels important limitations instead of presenting estimates as official totals.

Reporting period

Texas court fiscal year 2025 covers September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025.

Reporting completeness

The municipal report shows an 88.7% reporting rate; the justice-court report shows 93.7%. The figures are reported totals, not a claim of complete statewide reporting.

Cases versus citations

The reports count court cases. They do not claim to list every roadside citation issued in Texas.

Filed versus disposed

The cases disposed during FY 2025 are not necessarily the same cases filed during FY 2025.

City pages

The future city rebuild will label each local metric according to the exact official field used and will distinguish official figures from estimates.

Update standard

This hub should be reviewed when OCA publishes the next annual statistical supplement or materially revises the source data.
